INITIATION DECEMBER NEWSLETTER
November 23, 2011
There are a few items to go over for both groups despite the short month for us. I have been continuing to hear positive feedback from parents so I think that’s a good sign that all is well. If you do have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.
I would like to point out to parents that, as members, you are welcome to and encouraged to participate in monthly membership meetings. Announcements of dates and times are always posted to the web. The association is always looking for input and participation from the membership and this is a good place to start for anyone interested in becoming more involved with EHMH.
EHMH will break over the holidays as we do every year. This year our last practice before Christmas for both groups will be on December 18 and the first after New Year’s will be January 5 for IP2 and January 6 for IP1.
For both groups I would remind you to be sure to check emails and the website for any schedule changes. I’d like to point out that often when a time changes it is simply out of our hands. IP time is protected to a degree as it is not as easy to move 45+ players as it is to move a smaller team. However, there may be times when there is no other choice.
I have been trying to make use of the website so all practices and events should be posted. To view: On the main page (www.ehpenguins.org), hover over Novice at the top and then choose either IP1 or IP2. From the left menu choose “Schedule”.
Sackville Boxing Day Jamboree
One IP1 team and one IP2 team will be going to the Boxing Day Jamboree hosted by Sackville Minor Hockey. Have fun and best of luck to the players who signed up!! I will send out more information to parents and coaches as it becomes available. This will be when the schedule is sent to me.
All IP players in both groups are welcome to and expected to attend the yearly Timbits Jamboree at the Halifax Metro Centre. This is the event of the year for IP and it is both well organized and a lot of fun for the kids. There is not a lot of information yet but the tentative date for this year is January 8. That is a regular IP practice day anyway, but please try to keep your schedule open for the day!
As many of you are aware, the East Hants Jr. B Penguins invite IP1 teams to participate in mini-games during their home games. This works out well as our practice is on Friday night right before the game. The normal procedure is that the players whose turn it is are taken to a dressing room after our practice, remove skates and helmets and watch most of the first period before they are taken to get skates back on and get ready for the game.
Afterward, parents and kids are welcome to stay and watch the rest of the game.
The dates and teams are as follows:
December 9 – Sharks
January 13 – Canadiens
January 20 – Rangers
February 3 – Penguins
Our next two confirmed Moosehead’s Games are December 3 and January 20. All spots for both of these are filled. Often we get an opportunity for a 4th game and I will let people know if we get one.
For these games I send out information for parents and coaches about game night procedures 1 week prior to the game. No one should be going to the Metro Centre the night of the game without knowing what to do, where to go, etc.
If you are booked for one of these and wish to purchase additional tickets for family members, the Timbits section is Section 37 so you can request tickets there if you want to sit with the team.
Jr. B Flagbearers
I still have 4 open dates for flagbearers on January 20, February 3, 10 and 17. If you are interested please send me an email.
I think that is about all for now. As usual, thanks to our volunteers – not only do they keep things organized on the ice they are also subject to taking time out of their busy lives to ensure that they meet all the Hockey Nova Scotia requirements in terms of checks and courses. It is greatly appreciated by the association and, I’m sure, by our parents.
Have a happy and safe holiday season!
